Jesus Christ Sign Miracles
According to Kruse, Jesus performed eight great sign miracles that are recorded by John, a disciple of Jesus in his book found in the New Testament of the Holy Christian Bible.1 John accompanied Jesus wherever he went and therefore acted as an eye witness of what Jesus did.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Jesus Christââ¬â¢ Sign Miracles specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Even today, Jesus performs miracles by transforming lives of Christians. Dr. Elmer Towns a professor of Liberty University and author of ââ¬Å"The Gospel of John, Believe and Liveâ⬠points out that the eight miracles acted as a proof of His Divinity, that Jesus Christ was God. The miracles of Jesus are used to show the mighty power of God manifested through Jesus Christ who lived on earth like normal human beings though he was God.2 Changing water into wine The first miracle to be performed by Jesus was at a wedding in Cana, a town in Gali lee during which he turned water into wine. Jesus was invited to the wedding and he went in the company of his disciples. Wine that had been prepared got finished before all the guests could be served. Mary the mother of Jesus informed him that people had run short of wine. Jesus instructed the servants to take six pots and fill them with water. The water in the pots was turned into wine that served the rest of the guests. Turning water into wine shows that as a Deity, Jesus has power over creation.3 Healing the son of the nobleman In the book of (John 4: 46-54), the bible records that at one time, as Jesus walked around the town of Galilee, he was approached by a nobleman from Capernaum who explained to him about his dying son who was sick and still lying in bed. The nobleman requested Jesus to heal the boy. Just through uttering the healing words, and the faith that the nobleman had in Jesusââ¬â¢ healing power, the boy was healed. On his return home, he found that his son was h ealed in exactly the same time Jesus uttered the healing words. This miracle shows that Jesus has power over space. This is because he spoke the healing words at Cana and the boy was healed at Capernaum. The miracle shows that space does not limit the power of Jesus. His mighty hand can reach people from all corners of the world even today. The Lame Man Towns describe the story of how Jesus healed the lame man in Jerusalem.4 He had been for a longtime living beside the pool of Siloam where the angel of God healed the sick. It was a routine that the Angel of God came and troubled the water and the first person to enter the pool was healed. However much the lame man tried, his condition could not allow him to be the first to enter the pool. Jesus told the lame man to rise, carry his bed and walk and the man was healed. Jesus healed the lame man on the Sabbath day an act that annoyed Jews because it was to be kept holy. Jesus told Jews that he worked under Gods instructions on when and how to use his power. This miracle was meant to show that God had the power over the Sabbath day. Time is not a determining factor of when God should manifest his power. He does it in his convenient time.Advertising Looking for essay on religion theology? Let's see if we can help you! The food that was available was not enough to feed the large number of people. There was a boy with five loaves of bread and two small fishes within the crowd. Jesus ordered about 5000 men not inclusive of women and children to sit down. He thanked God, took the loaves and fish and gave it to his disciples to distribute it to the crowd. The crowd ate to their satisfaction and a remainder of twelve baskets full of leftover was collected by the disciples. The miracle shows that God has power over food. The miracle impli es the word of God that fills the souls of men. It means that small amounts of spiritual word satisfy large numbers of people.5 Jesus walks on water Jesus Christ rose to the mountain to pray while his disciples boarded a ship that travelled to Capernaum. In the course of their journey sometime at night, there was a great wind blowing against them that made the ship in which they were travelling in to lose direction thereby endangering their lives. During this time, they spotted Jesus walking on the sea towards the ship. This astonished them but Jesus assured them that it was him, Christ Jesus and that they should not fear. Soon, the ship reached its destination. The miracle was meant to show that Jesus has power over nature.6 The healing of the blind man Jesus came across a man who had been blind right from birth. Through the miracle, Jesus showed that he was the light of the world while on earth. Jesus anointed his eyes with a mixture of clay and his saliva and ordered him to rinse his face in the pool of Siloam. The blind man was healed. The miracle shows Godââ¬â¢s power over physical laws. Even today, Jesus has the power to cure all diseases.7 Lazarus resurrection John 11: 1-44 records the story of Lazarusââ¬â¢ resurrection. Lazarus the brother to Mary and Martha was raised from the dead by Jesus to show the glory of God. Jesus visited Bethany four days after Lazarus had passed away. Jesus assured Mary that Lazarus was not dead and would live again because he is the resurrection and life and whoever believed in him would rise from dead. Mary believed in the power of Jesus. Jesus went to the grave and ordered them to remove the stone at the entrance of the tomb. He said a word of prayer and in a loud voice ordered Lazarus to come out. Lazarus resurrected and lived again. The miracle was meant to show Gods power over death. Those who witnessed Lazarus resurrection believed in God.8Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Jesus Christâ⬠⢠Sign Miracles specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The Miraculous Catch of Fish Simon Peter, Nathanael, James, Thomas, John among other disciples had been fishing in the sea of Tiberia for a whole night with no success. Jesus visited them early in the morning and instructed them to cast their net on the right side of the boat. They cast so many and big fish that they could not pool the net into the boat. They had to pull their nets to the show. The miracle showed that Jesus can save many people. However hard an individuals heart may be, Jesus can save them from their sins. The eight sign miracles of Jesus were meant to show glory and mighty power of God manifested in different places to different people. The miracles act as evidence to Christians that God is real and his prophesies must come true.9 Bibliography Holy Bible. The King James Study Bible. Nashville: Thomas Nelson, Inc., 1988. Free Essays on The Euthyphro
The moral dilemma involving Euthyphro and Socrates begins when Socrates challenges Euthyphro by asking him what holiness really is, since Euthyphro claimed he was an ââ¬Å"expertâ⬠in religious matters. Euthyphro defines holiness as persecuting religious offenders. Socrates found this definition unacceptable, seeing that there are many other more worthy deeds than persecuting people. Euthyphro went on to say that whatever the Godââ¬â¢s found agreeable was indeed holy. Socrates then went on to say that the Godââ¬â¢s fought with each other, so what might be agreeable to one might not be to another. Basically, Socrates was trying to prove that holiness cannot be defined by the Gods. Therefore, neither the Gods nor holiness can be defined because each was inherently based on the other. This left Euthyphro in a dilemma, unsure of what constituted holiness. He believed that holiness was a kind of justice that was for ââ¬Å"looking after the Godsâ⬠. Socrates again disagreed by saying that the Gods are all powerful and donââ¬â¢t need to be looked after in any way. Again, Euthyphro rebutted by saying that sacrifices are made to the Gods in order to grant prayers. All this really accomplished was bringing the argument back the beginning, leaving the dilemma unsolved.... Consideration in Law of Contract Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Consideration in Law of Contract - Essay Example 6. Promise to perform an existing contractual obligations is a valid consideration. Definition of Consideration: Sir Frederick Pollock, defined consideration as "An act or forbearance of one party, or the promise thereof, is the price for which the promise of the other is bought, and the promise thus given for value is enforceable." Lord Dunedin ratified this definition in Dunlop v Selfridge Ltd [1915] AC 847, Patteson J defines Consideration in Thomas v Thomas [(1842) P 118)] case as "Consideration means something which is of some value in the eye of the law, moving from the plaintiff; it may be some detriment to the plaintiff or some benefit to the defendant, but at all events it must be moving from the plaintiff. [Contract Cases and Materials by H.G.Beale, W.D.Bishop and M.P.Furmston. Chapter 6 p.93] Consideration is defined by Lush J. in the case of Currie v Misa [(1875) LR 10 Exch 153, 162.] as "A valuable consideration, in the sense of the law, may consist either in some right, interest, profit or benefit accruing to one party or some forbearance, detriment, loss or responsibility, given, suffered or undertaken by the other". [Contract Cases and Materials by H.G.Beale, W.D.Bishop and M.P.Furmston. Chapter 6 p.93] Evaluation of this definition with reference to the Court of Appeal's understanding of consideration in Williams v Roffey Bros &Nicholls (Contractors) Ltd (1990) 1All ER 512, Court of appeal. [Contract Cases and Materials by H.G.Beale, W.D.Bishop and M.P.Furmston. Chapter 6 p.107] Before we attempt this it is necessary to know brief facts of the case. In this case Roffey Bros. are the Principal contractors undertaken the carpentry work in an apartment. In the principal... Consideration in Law of Contract The Dictionary meaning of Consideration is "Consideration means something which is of value in the eyes of the law, moving from the plaintiff, either a benefit to the plainiff or detriment to the defendant. Consideration is not to be confounded with motive." (Black's Dictionary) Consideration means "Something that is legally regarded as the equivalent or return given or suffered by one for the act or promise of another". Adequate consideration means, "Legally sufficient, lawfully and reasonably sufficient". (Webster's third new International dictionary) The word "Adequate" means fully equal requirements or occasions, commensurate, but in its primary and not more popular significance, nothing can be said to be 'adequate' which is not equal to what is required, suitable to the case or occasion, fully sufficient, proportionate, and satisfactory". Therefore the definition of consideration as defined by Lush J. in Currie v Misa case is perfectly fulfilled in this case. Hence the courts have rightly adjudicated the case in favour of the plaintiff. Another point to discuss in this case is whether there is a promissory estoppel. Before we discuss this it is better to under stand the promissory estoppel. Estoppel is an equitable doctrine: Courts apply this doctrine as discretion. It is not a remedy at law. When one party did said something to induce the other party to make a promise. At later stage if he differs as unlawful and not enforceable. The court can apply its discretion of Estoppel on sufficient proof.

Opinion on economic issue Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Opinion on economic issue - Essay Example Thomas Piketty, in his book, Capital in the Twenty-First Century, warns that income inequality will continue increasing because the rate of capital return in developed countries exceed their respective economic growth rates. The book, by analyzing data of the past 250 years, notes of the problem of wealth concentrating in few hands. S&P reports that income inequality has grown in the US thereby excluding a huge part of the population from enjoying the benefits of a large economy. Income inequality is a great problem in the context of the recent recession that made many people lose their hard-earned wealth. It is crucial to highlight that income, in this sense, is assessed in terms of earnings. Economists and other intellectuals have hypothesized that gaps in technology and education are responsible for corresponding gaps in income earnings. This happens as highly educated and specialized people receive high-income incentives for their work while the lowly skilled receive relatively low pay. It is essential to highlight that firms have different calibers of workers. The workers who receive very high pay are highly likely to possess a larger bargaining power than the employees with lower skills. This seeps into the society and create a persistently unequal community. Numerous problems stem from income inequality in the society. In the American recession of 2007 to 2009, many individuals lost their job. Loss of jobs makes it difficult to ascend the job environment, especially, for those with relatively low skills. A generationââ¬â¢s inequality has high chances of moving into the next generation in case of no mitigation measures against the same. For instance, a family with low income has limited chances of accessing quality healthcare and education. This further entrenches inequality because talented but unprivileged people cannot access

Diversity and Education According Essay Example for Free
Diversity and Education According Essay Americaââ¬â¢s student populations are increasingly reflective of an ethnically diverse society. However, we recognize that there are several major variables for improving the multicultural accommodation apparent in a school. Bruner and Vytgotsky lend this discussion some useful insight concerning such variables. Chief among them, the diversity of faculty, of learning content and of learning media all are directly relevant to the schoolââ¬â¢s embrace of difference. As the immigrant population continues not only to rise but to diversify in the United States, our educational system, and indeed, our nation has in many contexts attempted to enforce a degree of cultural uniformity inclined to either assimilate or exclude incoming cultures. Standardized testing, rigid curriculum design and poor representation amongst teachers and administrators of a diverse student population have all had the impact of white-washing American education. In the urban setting such as the case at hand, this can be especially problematic, with such failures of institution causing vulnerable students to disengage. Vytgotsky contributes an important idea to this discussion, referring us to the relevance of effective pedagogy in engaging such students. One of the best ways to accomplish this is through group activity. We have a core understanding of the fact that diversity implies not just a diversity of ethnicity or culture but also of potential learning styles or strategy. Vytgotsky offers an effective way to use this diversity to the advantage of the classroom. Group activity is always an effective way to help distill strategies and strengths for individuals. By strategically grouping students according to aptitude and academic strength, we enable stronger learners to directly engage weaker learners in a way that helps to effectively communicate concepts and ideas in play. Vytgotsky essentially contends that there is value to the less effective student of being partnered with a more skilled learner. This interaction can be beneficial to the aptitude of the former and can help the latter develop innate leadership skills. The focus of such legislation as No Child Left Behind does not leave a great deal of freedom or latitude for the urban school to engage in such activities however. There seems at present to be an impulse of standardization directly opposite the need for diversity celebration. Some of the root causes of the failure of our educational system to accommodate diversity as it cuts across multiple demographic lines are resultant of the instruments used to promote student aptitude measurements. (McCarty, 1) Primarily, the ability or interest of teachers to accommodate diversity is stunted by the entrenched presence of institutional prejudices that shape testing standards, curricular design and instructional method in a way that embraces standardization, legislative mandate and procedural uniformity. (McCarty, 1) One of the most heavily-recognized and persistent of such conflicts may be observed still today in the genuine lack of equality in the cultural standards applied to teaching African Americans. Particularly, there is a fundamental failure in the content choices which shape curricula such as those concerning literacy, history, policy and even the natural As part of a cyclical pattern which institutionally prevents our minority populations from being loosed of such a negative spiral, students beholden thereto are either locked into curricula which are given a financial short-shrift and are thus, armed with fewer qualified teachers, or are committed to districts where their cultural and ethnic perspectives are not being accounted for. This is a circumstance which regrettably continues today, with the current presidential administrationââ¬â¢s No Child Left Behind initiative imposing further dependence upon the diagnostic testing and grade-evaluation policies which have long been an appendage of established educational patterns. The new education standards are given over to a ââ¬Å"fundamentally punitive law that uses flawed standardized tests to label schools as failures and punish them with counterproductive sanctions. â⬠(Neill, 1) This is also a sharp diversion in focus from that which Bruner argues is a priority for the diverse student bodies in our urban schools. The social impact of the educational experience is, according to Bruner, a fundamental aspect of its quality. The studentââ¬â¢s engagement in class will often be a function of his socialization. This provides a firm rationale for the critique of diversity standards in our educational system. Indeed, there is an inherent danger by way of this administrative approach of the loss of pragmatism, which often incorrectly attributes the challenges related to diversity as products of learning deficiencies. This constitutes a fundamental disservice to the student and, it is worth asserting, basic intellectual prejudice which generally stigmatizing the future opportunities availed to those of ethnic minority or immigrant status. In Brunerââ¬â¢s understanding, the socialization of a diverse student body will actually promote learning rather than obstruct it. Therefore, as the ultimate resolution on the subject, our discussion inclines us to acknowledge as a basis of assumption that greater multicultural sensitivity is needed in the teaching of literacy, of the social sciences and of all disciplines on the individual level. Moreover, we resolve that both Bruner and Vytgotsky would find fault with the rigid and disruptive patterns of No Child Left Behind. Ultimately, the two provide theories which merge to suggest that diversity can be managed through flexible management of the classroom and educational experiences. Works Cited McCarty, Teresa. Television and the Forever Changing World :: Essays Papers
Television and the Forever Changing World ââ¬Å"To suggest that children growing up in the 1990s live in a different world than the one their parents or grandparents experienced is not only to state the obvious, but to understate the obvious.â⬠-Children & Television: Images in Changing a Sociocultural World - Joy Keiko Asamen and Gordon L. Berry, Eds. From Barney the Purple Dinosaur and Sesame Street to Friends and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, television covers a variety of materials. The television, as a means of education, has changed drastically since its 1939 North American debut. The way children learn, both academically and socially, have been affected by this change. Television is at the center of a multimedia society. Effects of television on children include, among many other aspects of life, time control and leisure activity displacement, parental involvement in education, and attention, comprehension, and retention skills. A BRIEF HISTORY OF TELEVISION At the time of its debut, the television was expected to impact the lives of children. TV broadcasting came to the United States in July of 1941, when the Federal Communications Commission licensed the first commercial stations. Broadcasting was then limited during World War 2, and once again went full-scale in 1946. ââ¬Å"Despite the slow start to television broadcasting, this medium was quickly adopted and it diffused through the population at an accelerated pace (Asamen 10).â⬠The number of households with a television set jumped from approximately 10,000 in 1945 to nearly seven million in 1950. ââ¬Å"By 1955, almost 65% of U.S. households had at least one television set, and that figure was 90% in 1960 (Asamen 11).â⬠Currently only 2% of American households do not have a television set. (Asamen 10-11) Throughout the past three or four decades, the image of an American family has become more complex. In the past, families predominantly consisted of a mother, a father, and several children. This has developed into something new, with "a highly varied collection of nuclear families with one or two children, single parent households (predominantly female-headed), reconstituted or blended families following divorce and remarriage, and married or unmarried couples who prefer to remain childless (Huston 36)." This observation causes a person o ask whether or not television programming has reflected this change. Are shows like 7th Heaven an accurate representation of a modern American family? Are the contents of The Wonder Years and The Brady bunch still relevant in our society?

Soul Food
When you think of soul food what is the first thing to come to mind? I think of southern foods as flavorful spicy foods like gumbo or jambalaya. Soul food has been around since the slave days and is described as a type of foods that are associated with African-American culture in the southern United States. Soul food recipes were typically a reflection of the chefââ¬â¢s creativity, after the abolition of slavery, most African Americans lived in poverty, so recipes continued to make use of cheaper ingredients.Of course, this isnââ¬â¢t entirely a black/white issue. Historically, there hasnââ¬â¢t been much of a difference between the foods eaten by poor black Southerners and poor white Southerners. They usually used meats like chicken, liver etc. newly freed slaves used this type of cooking to their advantage because they didnââ¬â¢t have much money to live with. Since slaves werenââ¬â¢t aloud to read or write, recipes were passed down orally for several generations. There were no widely distributed soul food cookbooks until the late 1960s and early 1970s. Around the 60s and 70s black-owned soul food restaurants began to appear in New Orleans, Birmingham, and other southern cities. presently soul food restaurants from fried chicken and fish ââ¬Å"shacksâ⬠to upscale dining establishments-are in every African-American community in the nation, especially in cities with large black populations, such as Chicago, New York, New Orleans, Los Angeles and Washington, DC .Over centuries, soul food has been cooked and seasoned with pork products, and fried dishes are usually cooked with hydrogenated vegetable oil like Crisco which is a trans fat. Unfortunately, regular consumption of these ingredients without significant exercise or activity to work the calories off often contributes to disproportionately high occurrences of obesity, hypertension, cardiac/circulatory problems and/or diabetes. It has also been a factor in African-Americans often having a sho rtened lifespan. More modern methods of cooking soul food include using more healthful alternatives for frying (liquid vegetable oil or canola oil) and cooking/stewing using smoked turkey instead of pork. This is why over time soul food has been cooked with more healthy ingredients. Now, soul food is the one of the most common foods across the country and is associated with comfort and happiness for a lot of people.

Is America a False Hope for Transexuals Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Is America a False Hope for Transexuals - Essay Example We see that while doing this, the issue becomes very tricky indeed. It is unusual for one who hails from the continent of Asia to refer to him/herself as being "Asian," but rather to identify him or herself as Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, etc. Similarly, we are led to question if a transsexual does not prefer to be more specific about his or her identity as a transsexual. Go to Wikipedia, and you will be inundated with a huge variety of external links, each one catering to a very specific type of transsexual. We see sections devoted to "trans men to women," "trans women to men," and "trans youth." In spite of the ridicule surrounding the phenomena of transsexuals, (and there is no question that this ridicule does in fact exist) we find many sophisticated medical journals either devoted to or featuring information on this topic, such as "The Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association's Standards of Care for Gender Identity Disorders," "The Gender Trust - The UK Charity f or the support of trans individuals, their friends & family, employers and professionals," " Definition and Synopsis of the Etiology of Adult Gender Identity Disorder and Transsexualism as published by the Gender Identity Research and Education Society." (Wikipedia, under the term "Transsexual.")In order to really see the issue of transsexuals, their place in our society and how the majority of Americans regard them, we need to first dispel certain myths about them. How do transexuals view themselves What do they have to say"A transsexual is a person in which the sex-related structures of the brain that define gender identity are exactly opposite the physical sex organs of the body. "Gender and Sex are very separate things, though the terms are often considered interchangeable by the less aware. Sex is physical form and function while Gender is a component of identity. There can be considered to be some legitimate overlap in that the brain is structured in many sex-differentiated ways, and the brain is the seat of identity."A transsexual person, born to all appearance within a given physical sex, is aware of being of a gender opposite to that physical sex. This conflict, between gender identity and physical sex, is almost always made manifest from earliest awareness, and is the cause of enormous suffering. It is common for transsexuals to be aware of their condition at preschool ages." (http://www.transsexual.org/What.html) To further learn about the lives of transsexuals in America, we need to go to the source and take a glimpse at their situation and how they are treated by society. To really put things into perspective, it may help to start with the story of David Reamer. As an

HR Management Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
HR Management - Assignment Example According to Wilcox and Lowry it is the reframing and repositioning of HRM practices as the businesses strategic partner that makes employees the important economic resources (2006, pp. 50-64). There are two major views and perspectives when it comes to Human Resource Management. These are the instrumental or hard practices and the humanistic or soft practices. Instrumental practices focus on the quantitative and strategic approaches towards people management. In this case, it mainly provides a highlight of the economic value of human resources. It focuses on how these resources are important in maximizing the performance of the organization (Lee-Ross & Pryce 2010, p. 66). As such, they can be used to provide a firmââ¬â¢s competitive advantage. It is these HRM practices that can be aligned with the other activities in the business and strategies of the organization to promote some of the other additional practices such as restructuring, outsourcing and downsizing, which are considered to be strategic actions. The instrumental or hard HRM practices include labor legislations. On the other hand, the humanistic or soft HRM practices are those that include functions of orga nizational development, management of conflicts, and education of human resource, organizational culture, leadership development and components that contribute in building of relationships. They are more employee-centered and put into account the humanness within employees as it considers them to be proactive contributors to the firm (Harris, Wijesinghe & McKenzie 2010, p. 129). It makes more emphasis on the need for commitment, job satisfaction, motivation, trust and knowledge. In this sense, it helps in the enhancement of the level of employee engagement, development, participation and autonomy in addition to the participation in decision making activities and collaboration. Between these two kinds of HRM practices it is the humanistic
